How to Create Professional Infographics with AI

Not all infographics are the same. Before opening a tool, decide what type of visual you need:

Infographic type	Recommended tool
Data visual with charts, icons and free layout	Canva AI
Process diagram, step flow or concept map	Napkin.ai
Long infographic with text + images (for blog or Pinterest)	Canva AI
Diagram for presentation or concept explanation	Napkin.ai

General rule: if you want full control over the design, use Canva. If you have text or data and want AI to generate the diagram by itself, use Napkin.ai.

The biggest mistake when creating infographics is starting to design without a clear message. This is solved in 5 minutes with AI:

1. Open ChatGPT, Claude or any AI assistant.
2. Write: “I have this data/text: [paste your information]. Help me structure it for an infographic with 5 to 7 key points, an attractive title and a conclusion. Format: title, subtitle, bullet list, conclusion.”
3. Review the structure it gives you and adjust anything that doesn’t sound like your voice.
4. Copy the result ready to paste into the design tool.

It doesn’t matter if the text is long or messy: AI synthesizes it. Your job is to check that the points are accurate, not to write from scratch.

1. Go to https://www.canva.com and sign in (or create a free account).
2. In the search bar type “Infographic” and choose the size you need (there are templates for social, presentations and web).
3. For AI to generate the design for you, click “Use Magic Design” (available in free and Pro, with expanded features in Pro).
4. Paste the text you prepared in Step 2 and wait a few seconds. Canva generates several complete design options with your content.
5. Choose the one you like most and start customizing.

Quick customizations:

• Change colors to your brand’s from the “Brand colors” side panel (in Pro).
• Click any text to edit it.
• Use the “Magic Write” button if you want AI to rephrase a text inside the design.
• Replace icons or images by clicking them and searching the library.

Tip: if a template has the layout you want but the wrong colors, change the colors first, then the content. It’s faster than searching for the perfect template.

Napkin.ai is ideal when you have explanatory text and want to convert it into a diagram without designing anything manually:

1. Go to https://napkin.ai and create a free account.
2. Create a new document and paste the text or points you prepared.
3. Select a paragraph or list and click the wand icon that appears beside it.
4. Napkin generates several visualization options: flowchart, mind map, comparison table, timeline, pyramid, and more.
5. Choose the style that best communicates your idea and adjust colors if you want.
6. Export as PNG or SVG (free) or integrate directly into a presentation.

Cases where Napkin.ai shines:

• Processes with multiple sequential steps (workflows, tutorial steps).
• Comparisons between options (2x2 table, quadrants).
• Hierarchies or structures (conceptual org charts).
• Cause and effect relationships.

From Canva:

1. Click the “Share” button (top right) then “Download”.
2. Choose the format:
   • PNG: ideal for social media and web.
   • PDF: for printing or emailing.
   • MP4: if you added animations (available in Pro).
3. To share online directly, use the “Publish as view link” option to send without downloading.

From Napkin.ai:

1. Click the export button on the diagram.
2. Choose PNG or SVG (SVG is scalable, ideal for presentations or web).
3. To insert into a presentation, use the direct integration option if your app supports it.

Recommended resolutions:

• Social media: at least 1080 px wide.
• Print: export at 300 dpi from Canva Pro.
• Web: PNG at 72 dpi is enough and weighs less.

Before publishing, ask a friend or colleague to look at the infographic for 10 seconds and tell you what they understood. If the message doesn’t land quickly, simplify.

Problem	Fix
Magic Design doesn’t show in Canva	Check if your plan includes the feature. In the free plan it may be limited.
Canva infographic looks pixelated when exported	Choose PNG in high resolution or enable “Export in high quality” in Canva Pro.
Napkin.ai generates a diagram that doesn’t make sense	Try selecting less text (1-2 concise paragraphs) and choose a different visualization type.
Colors don’t match my brand	In Canva, use “Brand Kit” to save your colors and apply them with one click to any design.
The infographic has too much information	Split into two: one infographic per main idea. The best infographics have one clear message.
