Anthropic introduces the Anthropic Cyber Mission to protect critical infrastructure and open source software
My take: Anthropic announced its "Cyber Mission," a long term commitment to help protect, with AI, the systems everyone depends on. It starts with two fronts: a program that puts Anthropic engineers and its most advanced models alongside partners like CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Deloitte, and Accenture to defend power grids, water systems, and transportation; and "OSS Scanner," a free, opt in service that scans open source projects for security flaws and suggests fixes.
What catches my attention most is that second piece. You don't need to be a big corporation to benefit: anyone maintaining an open source project, whether a freelancer, a small team, or a solo developer, can sign up for free and get AI generated reports on vulnerabilities in their own code. That opens the door to something that used to require money and access to specialists.
For any business that relies on open source software, and almost all of us do in some way, this is a clear signal of where security is heading: AI stops being just a risk and becomes an active part of the defense, even for the smallest players.
Do you know if any open source project your business or team relies on has already gone through an AI security scan, or are you still relying only on manual reviews?
