Google brings agentic AI to Gemini, starting with businesses
My take: Google introduced an agent inside Gemini that no longer just answers questions, it can take action: it plans the work, uses tools, and connects to the systems your business already runs on, from Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 to Slack, Jira, or databases like BigQuery and Snowflake. For now it's rolling out first to a select group of businesses in preview, before opening up to individual users. The interesting part is that the agent runs on its own Workspace account, with its own email and calendar: you can tag it, email it, or add it to a group chat like just another team member.
This confirms something I've seen coming for months: AI is stopping being a chat where you ask something and get an answer, and becoming a collaborator that does real work inside the tools your business already has installed. For any business owner or manager, the question isn't whether this technology is coming to your operation, it's when, and which task you'll start delegating to it first.
What I value most is that the agent leaves an audit trail of everything it does: its reasoning, which tools it used, and who it delegated parts of the work to. That transparency is exactly what you need to trust giving it more autonomy little by little, instead of just handing the keys to a black box.
If your business already uses tools like Slack, Jira, or a database, which repetitive task would you hand to an agent like this first, to measure how much real time it saves you?
