The S.I. Rename Doesn't Update Contracts or Statutes, Legal Analysis Warns
My take: An analysis from the law firm Wiley confirms something worth underlining: renaming something in an official communication doesn't change what the law says. Per the analysis, federal contracts, export control rules and government procurement still refer to "artificial intelligence," so for now "S.I." is mostly the vocabulary of official communications, not a new legal category.
If your business works with the federal government, this is still a good moment to calmly check what each contract or requirement actually says, instead of reacting to the headline of the day. AI is still the same strategic tool under the same rules it had yesterday; the only thing that changed is what the White House calls it in its own paperwork.
As someone who uses AI every day to build and document my own work, I'd rather focus on substance than on labels. If you work with or bid on federal contracts, have you already checked whether any of your proposals or contracts need updated language, or are you still waiting to see what happens?
