Democratic and Republican Governors Form a Bipartisan Coalition to Regulate AI
My take: While Washington stays busy with the S.I. name change and voluntary pacts, Maryland's Democratic governor, Wes Moore, teamed up with Indiana's Republican governor, Mike Braun, to announce a bipartisan coalition of governors that will develop its own AI rules. Moore, who chairs the National Governors Association this year, put it plainly: the federal government has a leadership role it isn't filling, and states aren't going to keep waiting for a law that isn't coming.
For anyone running a business or using AI every day at work, this is worth noticing: the rules that actually affect you might not come from Washington at all, they might come from your own state. That isn't necessarily bad. Several state governments are moving more seriously than the federal government right now, but it does mean paying attention to more than one source when you decide which AI tools to use and how you document that use.
I use AI every day to build my own projects, and what matters most to me isn't what anyone calls it, it's having clear rules of the game. If you're a business owner or freelancer, do you already know what your own state is proposing on AI, regardless of what the federal government does or doesn't call it?
