Anthropic Launches Claude Frontier Academy: $100 Million to Train 10,000 Engineers
My take: Anthropic just confirmed something I've been saying for a while: the biggest obstacle to AI actually working inside large companies isn't the technology, it's the people who know how to implement it well. That's why it launched Claude Frontier Academy, a $100 million program to train 10,000 "Frontier Deployed Engineers" by the end of 2027, modeled loosely on a medical residency: a four day intensive building a Claude system for a simulated enterprise, followed by 12 weeks leading a real deployment at their own organization, with mentorship from Anthropic. The first cohorts already include people from Accenture, Deloitte, McKinsey and Morgan Stanley, among others.
To me, this confirms the mantra I keep repeating: AI makes you more efficient, not smarter, and that efficiency only shows up once someone learns to use it well, not just by turning it on. No model, however good, deploys itself; it takes human judgment to connect it to a real business process.
Not everyone is going to get into an Anthropic program, but the lesson applies whether you work at a small company or freelance: the advantage today isn't having access to the tool, it's knowing how to apply it to a specific problem in your work. I use AI every day to build my own projects, and the difference always comes down to how I apply it, not which one I use.
If you work with AI day to day, have you already identified a specific process in your job where training yourself better could help you get more out of it?
