A Senator Responds to Trump: Renaming AI Doesn't Make It Safer

My take: Senator Mark Warner said something I think is exactly right: renaming artificial intelligence doesn't solve any of the real risks that come with a technology moving this fast. Instead, he's pushing his own bill, the Artificial Intelligence Risk Management and Security Act of 2026, which would require rigorous testing of the most advanced models before they ship and create a federal AI Safety Board.

This reinforces something I say often: AI is a strategic tool, not magic, and treating it seriously means investing in understanding and using it well, not finding it a flashier name. For any business or professional who already relies on these tools day to day, what really matters is the actual governance behind the models you use: how well tested they are, what controls exist and what happens if something goes wrong.

If you're a business owner or you use AI to work, the question worth asking yourself is: do you really know how safe and reliable the AI tools you use every day actually are?
