How to create videos with AI (step by step, 2026)
Learn to create videos with AI using Kling from scratch: generate your first video from text or images and download it in minutes, no technical experience or special equipment needed.
- Kling AI
- Runway
In this tutorial you’ll learn to create videos with AI using Kling AI: a tool that generates video clips from a text description or an image. In minutes you can have your first animated video, no editing knowledge or special equipment needed.
Tap each step to open and follow it.
Before you start: Kling AI runs in the browser (kling.ai), nothing to install. The free plan gives 66 credits per day (about 3 to 6 short videos) with a watermark. To publish without a watermark or for commercial use you need the Standard plan ($8.80/mo). Confirm current prices on the official page.
1 Create your Kling AI account
- Go to https://kling.ai
- Click Sign Up (top right).
- You can sign up with your Google account or email.
- Once inside, you’ll see the main panel with creation options: AI Video, AI Image, and other tools.
Kling automatically assigns you the free plan. Your available credits appear in the top right corner of the panel.
2 Understand credits and models
Kling uses a credit system to control how many videos you can generate:
| Plan | Credits | Refresh |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 66/day | Daily |
| Standard | Variable/month | Monthly |
| Pro | Higher volume/month | Monthly |
Each generation uses between 10 and 35 credits depending on the model and video duration:
- Kling 1.6 / 2.0 (standard): uses fewer credits, good quality to start with.
- Kling 2.1 (advanced): higher realism and coherence, uses more credits.
Free plan credits renew daily. Paid plan credits renew monthly.
3 Generate your first video from text
Text to Video mode is the simplest: you describe the scene and Kling animates it.
- In the main panel, select AI Video then Text to Video.
- In the text field, write a description of the scene you want to see.
- Choose the video duration (5 or 10 seconds).
- Select the aspect ratio: 16:9 for horizontal screen, 9:16 for stories or Reels, 1:1 for square posts.
- Click Generate and wait 1 to 3 minutes.
How to write a good video prompt:
- Describe the scene in the present tense: “A woman walks through a futuristic city at dawn.”
- Add the type of movement: “slow motion”, “gentle zoom toward the subject”, “aerial view”.
- Specify lighting or atmosphere: “golden light”, “soft fog”, “rain”.
- Mention the visual style if you want: “cinematic”, “3D animation”, “anime style”.
Example prompt:
“A woman walks through a neon-lit futuristic city at dawn, cinematic, slow motion, golden light reflecting on wet pavement.”
For better video results, apply the same techniques from the tutorial How to write effective prompts for artificial intelligence, which work with Kling too.
4 Animate an image (Image to Video)
Image to Video mode takes a photo or illustration and animates it. It’s ideal for bringing portraits, landscapes, or illustrations to life.
- In the main panel, select AI Video then Image to Video.
- Click the upload area and upload your image (JPG, PNG or WebP, max 10 MB).
- Write a description of the movement you want to see: “hair moves in the wind”, “camera slowly pulls back”, “leaves fall around the figure”.
- Choose the duration and aspect ratio.
- Click Generate.
Types of images that work well:
- Portraits with simple backgrounds
- Natural landscapes (sea, forest, city)
- Digital illustrations or AI-generated art
If you want to first create the image with AI and then animate it, the tutorial How to create images with artificial intelligence explains how to do it step by step.
5 Download and share your video
Once Kling finishes generating your video:
- The video appears in your generations gallery. Click on it to watch it.
- Click the download button (downward arrow icon) to save the MP4 file.
- To share a public link, use the share button.

If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The video doesn’t look like what I asked for | Be more specific in the prompt: add camera type, lighting, and visual style |
| The movement is too jerky or artificial | Add “smooth motion”, “slow motion” or “gentle camera movement” to the prompt |
| I ran out of credits | Free plan credits renew daily; wait until tomorrow or consider the Standard plan |
| Generation fails or takes too long | Servers may be busy; wait a few minutes and try again |
| Video has visual artifacts (distortions) | This is normal with complex characters or movements; simplify the prompt or switch models |
| I can’t download the video | Check that you’re signed in; some browsers block automatic downloads |
Frequently asked questions
