How to Create a Professional Portfolio with AI

Before designing anything, you need to know what you want the person who lands on your portfolio to do at the end (hire you, write to you, download something).

1. Open Claude.ai and type this prompt (adjust it to your case):

I'm a [your profession, e.g. freelance graphic designer]. I want to create an online portfolio to [goal, e.g. get clients from small businesses]. I have [number] projects to show. Give me the ideal section structure for my portfolio, in order, with a short description of what goes in each one.

2. Claude will give you a structure. Typical sections are: Hero (your name and value proposition), About you, Projects or work gallery, Services, Testimonials (if you have them) and Contact.
3. Pick the sections that apply to your case and discard the ones that don’t.

The copy (the text) is what converts a visitor into a client. Let Claude draft it and you adjust it.

1. In Claude, request your Hero text:

Write the main text (headline + 2-line subtitle) for my portfolio as a [your profession]. My ideal client is [who]. What sets me apart is [your advantage]. The goal is for them to contact me for [type of work]. Tone: professional but human.

2. Then ask for the “About me” section:

Write an "About me" paragraph for my portfolio. Mention that I've been in [area] for [time], that I specialize in [specialty] and that I enjoy [what you enjoy about the work]. Warm tone, first person, no clichés.

3. For each project, use this prompt:

Write a short description (3 sentences) for this portfolio project: [project name]. The client was [type of client]. I did [what you did]. The result was [result or impact]. Use action verbs and mention the result at the end.

4. Review each text, adjust what doesn’t sound like you and save everything in a document.

Each project needs: an image or screenshot, a title, a short description (the one you wrote in step 2) and, if applicable, a link to see the result.

1. Prepare the images for each project. If you don’t have clean screenshots, use Canva to create a simple visual card with the project name and the result in one line.
2. To create a card in Canva:
   • Go to canva.com and create a 1200 × 630 px design (ideal for portfolio and social media).
   • Write the project name in large typography.
   • Add the result in one line below.
   • Download as PNG or JPG.
3. Repeat for each project.

For most freelancers and creatives, Gamma (gamma.app) is the fastest way to have a visual portfolio without knowing design.

1. Go to gamma.app and create a free account.
2. Select “Generate” and choose “Presentation” (it also works as a public web page).
3. In the text box, describe your portfolio:

Professional portfolio for [your profession]. Sections: Hero with my name and value proposition, Projects (gallery of 3 to 5 pieces), About me, Services and Contact. Visual style: [modern / minimalist / creative / corporate].

4. Gamma generates a structure. Replace the placeholder text with the copy you wrote in step 2 and upload the project images from step 3.
5. Adjust the colors and font to match your brand.
6. Share Gamma’s public link directly, or export to PDF if you need to send it by email.

Alternatives if you want more control:

• Notion (notion.so): build a public page with sections. Free, without advanced design.
• Framer (framer.com): more visual, has AI to generate layouts. Has a free plan; confirm the current plan at framer.com/pricing.
• Google Sites (sites.google.com): the most basic, 100% free and easy to use.

A portfolio that nobody knows about doesn’t get clients. This is the minimum to get your work to who needs it:

1. Share the link in your LinkedIn profile (in the “Featured” section or the “Website” field).
2. Add the link to your email signature with text like “View my portfolio: [link]”.
3. Post on LinkedIn with 2 or 3 screenshots of your best projects and the link. Ask Claude to write the caption for you.
4. If you have your own domain, point the subdomain portfolio.yourdomain.com to your chosen platform’s URL (in most, configured in DNS as a CNAME).

Before sharing it, check these points:

1. Open your portfolio link in an incognito window (to see it as a new visitor).
2. Verify it loads well on mobile and desktop.
3. Click all contact buttons and confirm they work.
4. Ask someone you trust to review it and tell you if they understood what you do and how to hire you.
