How to create data charts and visualizations with AI

The AI needs organized data to generate a good chart. The ideal format is a simple table.

Options that work:

• Excel file (.xlsx): your spreadsheet directly. Make sure the first row has column names (e.g. “Month”, “Sales”, “Region”).
• CSV file: export from Excel with “Save As → CSV”. It’s the most reliable format for large data.
• Pasted text: if you have few data points, you can type them directly in the chat. For example:

Month, Sales
January, 1200
February, 1450
March, 980
April, 1700

Avoid:

• Merged cells or blank rows at the top of the file
• Date or number formats with odd symbols (e.g. “1.200,50” instead of “1200.50”)

If your data has text in Spanish (month names, categories), it works fine. No need to translate.

ChatGPT with data analysis is the most popular option and works directly from the browser.

2. Open a new conversation.
3. Click the clip icon (attach file) next to the text box.
4. Upload your Excel or CSV file.
5. Type your request in the chat. Examples of prompts that work well:

Create a bar chart with these monthly sales. 
Use light colors and add the values above each bar.

Analyze this data and suggest what type of chart 
represents it best. Then create it.

Generate a line chart showing the sales trend. 
Set the Y axis from zero.

6. ChatGPT generates the chart and shows it in the chat. Click the chart or the download button to save it as a PNG image.

The AI explains the option and generates it. You can then ask for adjustments like changing colors, font size, or label language.

Example prompt to adjust the chart:

Change the colors to blue tones, add a title that says 
"Sales 2026" and show values on each bar.

Once the chart looks good, save it and use it wherever you need:
