Tutorials · Beginner How to Create Forms and Surveys with AI Create forms and surveys with AI to research your market, collect client feedback, and automatically analyze responses using Google Forms, Tally, and Claude.
Creating forms and surveys with AI no longer takes hours. With the right tool combination you can design smart questions, collect client feedback, and analyze hundreds of responses in minutes. In this guide you’ll learn exactly how to do it, step by step.
Tap each step to open and follow it.
Before you start: for the AI analysis steps you’ll need a Claude (claude.ai) or ChatGPT account. The free account is enough to get started.
1 Choose your form tool
There are three main options, all with a free plan:
| Tool | Best for | Free |
|---|
| Google Forms | Speed, Google Sheets integration, unlimited responses | Yes, 100% | | Tally | Better-looking forms, basic conditional logic, unlimited responses | Yes (with Tally branding) | | Typeform | Conversational experience, great for client surveys | Yes (up to 10 responses/month on free plan) |
Recommendation to start: use Google Forms if you already have Google. Use Tally if you want a more polished form without paying.
For this tutorial, the steps apply to any of the three; the process of designing questions with AI and analyzing responses is identical.
2 Design your questions with AI
Before opening your form tool, use Claude or ChatGPT to design the questions. AI avoids common mistakes: biased questions, double-barreled questions, or incomplete answer options.
- Open Claude (claude.ai) or ChatGPT (chatgpt.com).
- Paste this prompt and replace the UPPERCASE parts with your case:
Design a survey for GOAL. The form is aimed at AUDIENCE.
I want to find out INFORMATION_YOU_SEEK. Include between 5 and 8 questions,
mix multiple-choice and short-answer questions. Avoid ambiguous or two-part
questions.
Real example:
Design a survey to evaluate satisfaction from my graphic design clients.
The form is aimed at clients who just received their logo. I want to know
what they liked, what they'd change, and if they'd recommend me. Include
between 5 and 8 questions, mix multiple-choice and short-answer questions.
- Review the questions AI gives you and adjust any that don’t fit your case.
- If a question doesn’t work for you, ask it to rephrase: “Question 3 sounds too formal, make it more conversational”.
3 Create the form
With your questions ready, create the form in the tool you chose.
In Google Forms:
- Go to forms.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
- Click the ”+” button (Blank form).
- Add a title and a short description.
- Add each question using the ”+” button on the right.
- For each question, pick the right type: multiple choice, checkboxes, linear scale, or short answer.
In Tally:
- Go to tally.so and create a free account.
- Click “New form”.
- Add the title. Tally uses a document-style editor: type the question, select the answer type, and continue.
- To add conditional logic (show a question only if they answered X), enable it in the settings panel for each block.
Both Google Forms and Tally let you share a direct link to the form or embed it on your website.
4 Share the form and collect responses
- In Google Forms: click “Send” (purple button at the top right). Copy the short link or share it directly by email.
- In Tally: click “Share”. Copy the public link.
- Share the form where your audience is: email, WhatsApp, social media, Instagram Stories, your newsletter, or your website.
To research your market: post the form in Facebook or LinkedIn groups in your niche, in relevant subreddits, or in communities where your potential clients are.
To collect client feedback: send it by email right after delivering a project or completing a sale.
5 Analyze responses with AI
This is where AI does the heavy lifting. Instead of reading each response one by one, you can ask Claude to find the patterns in seconds.
-
Export your responses:
- Google Forms: go to the “Responses” tab and click the Google Sheets icon (exports to a spreadsheet). Then copy the data.
- Tally: go to “Submissions” and click “Export as CSV”. Open the file in Excel or Google Sheets and copy the responses.
-
Paste the responses into Claude (claude.ai) with this prompt:
Here are the responses from a customer satisfaction survey.
Analyze the data and tell me:
1. The top 3 most mentioned themes (positive and negative).
2. The approximate percentage of satisfied vs. unsatisfied customers.
3. Two or three concrete actions I should take based on what they say.

- If the responses are free text (long comments), also ask: “Categorize the comments into: quality, communication, price, delivery time, other”.
If you have more than 50 long responses, split the data into two parts and analyze each separately; then ask for a unified summary.
Shortcut: use AI to generate the form directly in Typeform
Typeform has a built-in AI feature that generates the whole form from a text description. If you don’t want to do it step by step:
- Go to typeform.com and create an account.
- Click “Create typeform” and choose “Use AI”.
- Describe your form in a couple of sentences: “Satisfaction survey for graphic design clients, 6 questions, mix of multiple choice and free text”.
- Typeform generates the full form. Review each question and adjust as needed.
- Publish and share the link.
Typeform allows 10 responses per month on the free plan. If you expect more, consider Google Forms or Tally. Confirm current limits on the official Typeform pricing page before choosing a plan.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | Fix |
|---|
| Google form isn’t receiving responses | Check that the setting says “Anyone with the link can respond” (not just within your organization) | | AI gives very generic questions | Add more context to the prompt: who your client is, what you sell, what you specifically want to learn | | Too many responses and Claude can’t process them all | Split responses into groups of 30 and analyze in parts; then ask for a final summary | | Tally won’t let me remove their logo | That requires the Pro plan; use Google Forms if you need a free unbranded form |
Frequently asked questions Which form tool is best for beginners? Google Forms is the easiest option if you already have a Google account: it's free, has no response limit, and connects directly to Google Sheets. Tally also has a very generous free plan with better-looking forms. How do I use AI to analyze responses? Export responses as CSV or copy them directly, paste them into Claude or ChatGPT, and ask it to find patterns, write a summary, or categorize the feedback. Much faster than reading one by one. Can I use AI to design the form questions? Yes, and it's one of the most useful applications. Tell Claude what you want to know (e.g. 'what my design clients think of my service') and it generates well-ordered, unbiased questions with the right answer options. How many responses can I receive on Tally's free plan? Tally allows unlimited forms and responses on its free plan, with the Tally branding visible. To remove branding or use advanced conditional logic you need the Pro plan. Confirm current limits at tally.so/pricing. Can AI create the whole form for me? It can design the questions and structure, but you still create the form in the tool. Some tools like Typeform already have built-in AI to generate forms from a text prompt, but Google Forms and Tally require manual setup. |
