AI for business consultants: client data analysis, executive presentations, and value proposals with AI

How AI can help consultants analyze client data, create executive presentations, and build value proposals faster, without sacrificing quality or judgment.

Being a consultant means living between two worlds: your client’s data and the boardroom. You spend hours extracting information, building analysis, and preparing presentations so everything gets decided in a twenty-minute meeting. AI can’t join you in that meeting, but it can take over much of what costs you time before you get there.

The difference I’ve seen is this: consultants who use AI well aren’t just faster at copying text. They’re faster at thinking, because they delegate to the machine what the machine does best.

What AI can do for a consultant

In the hands of a good consultant, AI can:

  • Summarize large volumes of client data or documents into key points
  • Identify patterns and trends in data tables
  • Draft sections of reports and analysis in the right tone
  • Create the skeleton of executive presentations with their main messages
  • Generate multiple versions of a value proposal for different stakeholders
  • Prepare diagnostic questions for client interviews
  • Review and strengthen arguments before presenting them

It’s not that AI knows more about your client than you do. But it can process and structure information in seconds when it would take you hours.

A real example: from client report to executive presentation

Imagine you have 60 pages of financial and operational data from a client. The workflow with AI would be:

  1. You upload the document or paste the data. Tell the AI: “Here’s the client information. Identify the 5 most concerning metrics and 3 opportunity areas.”
  2. AI summarizes and prioritizes. In seconds you have an initial analysis with the points that deserve attention.
  3. You ask for the presentation skeleton. “Based on this, give me a 10-slide structure for an executive presentation. Include the main message for each slide.”
  4. You add the context and interpretation. You know what AI doesn’t: the history with the client, the internal political context, what’s not in the numbers.
  5. AI polishes the text. You ask it to “sound more executive,” to “simplify for a non-technical audience,” or to “make the argument stronger.”

What used to take a full day of work now has its skeleton in two hours.

Value proposals that convince faster

One of the hardest skills in consulting is articulating the value of what you’re proposing in language that resonates with the client. AI can help you:

  • Generate multiple versions of the same argument: one for the CEO (business impact), one for the CFO (return on investment), one for operations (efficiency and processes).
  • Review your proposal before sending it: “Does this proposal answer ‘why us?’ clearly enough?”
  • Adapt the tone by industry: talking to a manufacturing company is not the same as talking to a tech startup.

AI won’t tell you what strategy to recommend. But it can help that strategy be understood and sold better.

What stays with the consultant

Diagnosis, interpretation, client trust, and strategic judgment are irreplaceable. AI can give you the initial analysis of 60 pages of data, but it can’t give you a read of the room. It can’t notice that the CFO is on the defensive. It can’t know that the decision is already made and what you need to do is confirm, not convince.

That’s what makes you valuable. AI just gives you more time to use that value.

How to start without changing your whole process

You don’t have to integrate AI into every step of your methodology from day one. Choose an entry point:

  • If you spend a lot of time summarizing documents: start there.
  • If the bottleneck is building the presentation: start there.
  • If your proposals always need many rounds of revision: start there.

One change at a time. In a month you’ll look back and not understand how you did the same thing before without it.

Start with your next proposal

Before sending your next proposal, run it through AI. Tell it: “Does this proposal clearly answer what I’m going to do, why it matters, and what result to expect?” It will give you a perspective that sometimes needs an outside eye.

It’s a five-minute experiment that can change how you read your own work.
