- Select the free plan (“Continue for free”).
Done! You now have chat access. The free plan doesn’t require a credit card.
The official ChatGPT URL is https://chatgpt.com (by OpenAI). There are sites with similar names that aren’t official: always check the URL before signing up.
2 Describe what you want to write
The key to getting good texts is being specific in your request. The more information you give, the better the result.
Basic example (very vague):
Write me an email for a customer.
Improved example (specific):
Write me a professional but friendly email for a customer who bought from my online store 5 days ago and hasn’t received their order. I want to apologize, explain there’s a delay from the supplier, and tell them we’ll ship in the next 2 days. Warm and trustworthy tone. Maximum 3 paragraphs.
What to include in your prompt for better results:
- What the text is for: email, Instagram post, product description, blog article
- Who it’s for: customers, bosses, friends, followers
- What tone you want: formal, friendly, urgent, motivating
- How long: number of words, paragraphs, or characters
- What to include or avoid: don’t mention prices, include a call to action
To learn how to write prompts that get the best from AI, see the tutorial How to write effective prompts for artificial intelligence.
3 Improve and adjust the draft
The first draft from ChatGPT is rarely the final result. The advantage is that you can adjust it in the same conversation with natural language instructions, without starting over.
Examples of adjustments you can request:
- “Make it shorter, maximum 2 paragraphs.”
- “Change the tone to sound more informal, like writing to a friend.”
- “Add a call to action at the end to get them to visit my store.”
- “It sounded too generic. Make it more personal and mention we sell sustainable clothing.”
- “Translate it to Spanish.”
ChatGPT remembers the whole conversation, so you don’t need to repeat context in each message: just tell it what you want to change.
Tip: if you’re not happy with the result at all, start a new chat with a more detailed prompt. It’s more efficient than trying to fix it with many follow-up messages.
4 Always review before publishing or sending
ChatGPT is very useful, but not infallible. Before using any text it generates, review it with these points:
- Are the facts correct? If you mention dates, prices, names, or statistics, verify they’re real. ChatGPT can make up data very confidently.
- Does the tone sound like you? AI texts sometimes sound generic or use unnatural phrases. Adjust anything that doesn’t sound like your voice.
- Is it too long? ChatGPT tends to add filler text. Cut what doesn’t add value.
- Does it include private information? Don’t paste sensitive data (passwords, customer information, card numbers) into the chat.
Use it as a smart first draft, not the final product. Your review is what turns a correct text into an excellent one.
Types of text you can create with ChatGPT
ChatGPT works for almost any type of text. Here are some examples you can try today:
| Text type | Example prompt |
|---|---|
| Professional email | ”Email to request a meeting with a new supplier. Formal tone. Maximum 150 words.” |
| Instagram post | ”Instagram post announcing we’re opening a new store. Friendly tone, with emojis and 3 hashtags.” |
| Product description | ”80-word description for a 20-liter waterproof backpack, ideal for hiking, with padded straps.” |
| Blog article | ”500-word article about the benefits of olive oil. Informative and friendly tone.” |
| Reply to negative review | ”Friendly and professional reply to this negative Google review: [paste the review].” |
| Professional bio | ”Write my professional bio in 3 sentences. I’m a freelance designer specializing in branding for small businesses.” |

If something goes wrong
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The text sounds too generic | Add more context: who it’s for, what product or service, what tone you want |
| ChatGPT says I’ve reached the message limit | Wait a few hours (the limit resets) or consider the Plus plan |
| The text includes made-up data | Always check dates, statistics, and names before publishing |
| It won’t respond in English | Start the message with “Respond to me in English:” and continue with your request |
| The response was cut off halfway | Type “continue” in the same chat and it will complete the text |
| The text is too long | Ask: “Summarize it in [number] words keeping the key points” |
Frequently asked questions
Is ChatGPT free for writing texts?
Yes, ChatGPT has a free plan that lets you write emails, posts, and short texts. The message limit per period can be an obstacle if you use the tool very frequently.
Do I need to create an account to use ChatGPT?
Yes, you need a free account at chatgpt.com. Registration only requires an email address and takes under 2 minutes.
Are the texts ChatGPT generates original?
ChatGPT generates new text for each request, but it can sound generic without enough context. The more specific your prompt (who it's for, what tone you want, how long), the better the result.
ChatGPT or Claude: which is better for writing?
Both are excellent. ChatGPT has more users and more integrations with other apps. Claude tends to produce more natural text with fewer clichés. The best approach is to try both with the same prompt and keep whichever you prefer.
Can I use ChatGPT to write texts in Spanish?
Yes, ChatGPT works very well in Spanish. Just write to it in Spanish and it will respond in Spanish. No configuration needed.
