How to create professional presentations with AI

Learn to create professional presentations with AI step by step: build the outline with ChatGPT and generate the slides with Gamma in minutes, no manual design.

  • Gamma
  • ChatGPT
  • Claude

In this guide you’ll create presentations with AI from start to finish: first you build the outline with ChatGPT (or Claude) and then you turn that outline into well-designed slides using Gamma, without moving a single text box by hand.

Tap each step to open and follow it. You can do everything for free for your first presentation.

The key idea: AI does the first draft and the design in minutes. You review, adjust the message and check the facts. That split is what saves you hours.

1 Define the topic and audience

Before touching any tool, be clear on 3 things. It takes a minute and improves the result a lot:

  1. The topic: what is it about? (e.g. “marketing plan for a new coffee shop”).
  2. The audience: who is it for? (a client, your boss, a class, investors).
  3. The goal: what do you want to happen at the end? (approval, a sale, understanding).

Jot them on a note. You’ll hand them to the AI in the next step.

2 Build the outline with ChatGPT or Claude

A good presentation starts with a good outline, not with the slides. Open ChatGPT or Claude and ask for the structure. A prompt that works:

You're my presentation assistant. Create the outline for a
presentation about [TOPIC], for [AUDIENCE], with the goal of
[GOAL]. Give me 7 to 10 slides. For each one: a short title
and 3 or 4 key points. Clear, professional tone.

Read what it returns and adjust it: ask it to shorten, to add a closing slide, to change the order. When you like the outline, you’ve got 80% of the work done.

Tip: if you’ve written prompts before, check our guide How to write effective prompts for artificial intelligence to get more out of it.

3 Create your Gamma account

Gamma is the tool that turns your outline into designed slides, without you designing anything.

  1. Go to https://gamma.app
  2. Click Sign up and create your account (you can use your Google account).
  3. The free plan gives you 400 one-time AI credits, enough for your first presentations.

No installation needed: Gamma runs in the browser, the same on Windows and Mac.

4 Generate the slides from your outline
  1. In Gamma, click + Create new and choose Presentation.
  2. Choose the Paste in text option.
  3. Paste the outline you built with ChatGPT or Claude.
  4. Gamma asks for the style and number of slides. Pick a theme you like and hit Generate.

In under a minute you have the full presentation, with titles, text, images and design. Each slide comes from a point in your outline.

5 Adjust the design and content

The AI made the draft; now you add your touch. Everything edits with a click:

  • Text: click any sentence and rewrite it your way.
  • Colors and typography: change the whole theme from the right-hand panel.
  • Images: replace the ones the AI added or ask for others by describing what you want.
  • Edit with AI: select a slide and use the AI button to ask “make it shorter” or “add a data point”.

Don’t chase perfection. Clear and professional is more than enough.

Check the facts before presenting

This is the step almost everyone skips, and it’s the most important. AI is super fast, but it can make up figures, dates or names. Before presenting:

  • Review every key number and fact: is it correct?
  • Confirm proper names and dates.
  • Read it out loud once: that’s how you catch odd phrases or ones that don’t sound like you.

You put your name in front of that audience. The AI does the heavy lifting, but the last word is yours.

Export or share

When it’s ready, you have several options:

  • Present from Gamma: use the presentation mode inside the tool.
  • Share a link: send a link so people view it in the browser.
  • Export: download it as PDF or PowerPoint (.pptx) to present offline or keep editing.

On the free plan, exported files include a small Gamma watermark. To remove it you need a paid plan (from $12/mo). Confirm prices on the official page.

If something goes wrong
ProblemFix
The slides came out with too much textAsk ChatGPT for a shorter outline (3 points per slide) and regenerate
I don’t like the designSwitch themes in the right panel; there are many styles
I ran out of AI creditsEdit by hand (it doesn’t use credits) or invite someone to earn credits
The AI put in a wrong factClick the text and fix it; always review before presenting

And that’s it. You went from a blank page to a professional presentation without designing by hand. If you want to keep creating with AI, also check How to create images with artificial intelligence for your own graphics.
