How to create music with artificial intelligence (with Suno, step by step)
Learn to create music with artificial intelligence using Suno step by step: create your account, write your first music prompt and download your song in minutes.
- Suno
In this tutorial you’ll learn to create music with artificial intelligence using Suno: a tool that generates complete songs from a text description. In minutes you can have your first song with lyrics, melody and instruments, no music knowledge or special equipment needed.
Tap each step to open and follow it.
Before you start: Suno runs in the browser (suno.com), nothing to install. The free plan gives around 10 songs per day. For commercial use you need the Pro plan ($10/mo). Confirm current prices on the official page.
1 Create your Suno account
- Go to https://suno.com
- Click Sign Up (top right).
- You can sign up with your Google account, Discord or email.
- Once inside, you’ll see the main panel with a text field in the center: that’s where you’ll write your first music prompt.
Suno automatically assigns you the free plan. You’ll see your available credits in the top right corner.
2 Understand credits
Suno uses a credit system to control how many songs you can create:
| Plan | Credits | Approximate songs |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 50/day (refresh daily) | ~10 songs/day |
| Pro | 2,500/month | ~500 songs/month |
| Premier | 10,000/month | ~2,000 songs/month |
Each generation costs around 5 credits and produces 2 different versions of the song so you can pick the one you prefer.
Free plan credits reset each day but do not accumulate. Paid plan credits also do not carry over to the next month.
3 Write your first music prompt
In the text field on the main panel, describe the song you want. Suno generates better results with detailed prompts.
What to include in a good music prompt:
- Genre or style: pop, reggaeton, bossa nova, indie rock, cumbia…
- Mood: happy, melancholic, energetic, relaxed…
- Key instruments: acoustic guitar, piano, synthesizer, electric bass…
- Tempo: slow, moderate, fast
- Theme or situation: a breakup, a Sunday at the beach, childhood nostalgia…
Example prompt:
“Upbeat Latin pop with acoustic guitar and clapping, about a summer at the beach. Lyrics in Spanish, happy and carefree tone.”
Click Create and wait 20 to 40 seconds. Suno will give you 2 versions of the song.

4 Customize with Custom Mode
Suno’s standard mode creates lyrics automatically. If you want to write your own lyrics or have more control, turn on Custom Mode:
- In the creation panel, enable the Custom toggle (above the text field).
- Two new fields appear:
- Lyrics: paste your lyrics here. Use tags like
[Verse],[Chorus],[Bridge]to mark the sections. - Style of Music: describe the musical style (same as in standard mode).
- Lyrics: paste your lyrics here. Use tags like
- You can also add a title to the song.
- Click Create.
Example lyrics with tags:
[Verse]
Every morning I wake up ready
to build something that lasts all week
[Chorus]
With AI in my hands
the future is near
nothing is impossible
when you get to work
5 Download and share your song
Once Suno generates the two versions of your song:
- Listen to both versions by clicking the play button.
- Choose the one you prefer.
- Click the three dots (more options) next to the song.
- Select Download to download the audio file (MP3).
- To share a link, choose Share and copy the public URL.

If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The song doesn’t sound like I expected | Be more specific in the prompt: add the genre, tempo and instruments |
| The lyrics have nothing to do with what I asked | Turn on Custom Mode and write your own lyrics |
| I ran out of free plan credits | Credits renew the next day; if you need more, consider the Pro plan |
| I can’t download the song | Check that you’re signed in; some browsers block automatic downloads |
| The song has a weird noise or cut | Generate another version: click the three dots and select “Extend” or create again with the same prompt |
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Suno songs in my YouTube videos?
With the free plan you cannot monetize content. With Pro or Premier you get commercial rights that let you upload songs to platforms like Spotify or use them in monetized YouTube and TikTok videos.
Does Suno also create the song lyrics?
Yes. When you describe the musical style, Suno generates lyrics automatically. You can also write your own lyrics in Custom Mode and Suno adapts them to the melody.
What type of music can Suno create?
Almost any genre: pop, rock, cumbia, reggaeton, jazz, classical, electronic, hip-hop and many more. The more detailed your prompt (instrument, tempo, mood), the better the result.
Do free plan credits accumulate if I don't use them?
No. The 50 daily credits on the free plan renew each day but do not accumulate. On paid plans, monthly credits also do not carry over to the next month.
Can I upload my own voice or instruments to Suno?
With the Pro plan you can upload up to 30 minutes of your own audio to add your voice or instruments to Suno's creations.
