How to build an MVP with AI: from idea to working prototype without coding

Before opening any tool, write this on paper or in a document:

“An app that helps [type of person] to [do X] without needing [obstacle].”

Example: “An app that helps freelancers generate price proposals in minutes without manual calculations.”

This sentence becomes the core of your first AI prompt. Without it, results will be generic.

Then define these three things:

1. What does your MVP do? (one main function, not a long list)
2. Who is the first user? (be specific: “freelance designer” is better than “entrepreneur”)
3. How does that user know it worked? (concrete success criterion)

The three main options for building an MVP with AI in 2026:

Recommendation for beginners: start with Lovable or Bolt.new. Both have a visual interface, generate complete apps from a prompt, and have a free plan to explore.

2. Create an account (you can use Google)
3. Open a new project

Prices may change. Confirm the plan you need on each tool’s official page before paying.

The first prompt is the most important: describe your MVP with enough detail for the AI to generate something useful on the first try.

Structure that works:

Create a [type of app] for [user].
The main function is [core action].
It should have: [list of key screens or features].
The style should be [simple/professional/minimalist].
Do not include [what you don't want].

Real example:

Create a web tool for freelancers.
The main function is generating a price proposal based on hours and rate.
It should have: a form (project name, hours, hourly rate),
a result with the total, and a button to copy the proposal as text.
The style should be clean and professional.
Do not include login or a database.

Paste the prompt into Lovable or Bolt and press Enter. The AI generates the app in minutes.

The first result is rarely perfect. That’s normal: the AI needs your feedback to refine. The key is giving specific instructions, not vague ones.

Examples of feedback that works:

• “Change the button from blue to dark green.”
• “Add a field for the client name.”
• “The result doesn’t show the currency symbol. Add it.”
• “Make the screen responsive for mobile.”

What doesn’t work:

• “Improve it.”
• “Make it prettier.”

Go from biggest (structure, flow) to smallest (colors, typography). Each clear instruction = one useful change.

If something breaks while iterating, tell the tool: “Go back to the previous version.” Lovable and Bolt keep version history.

Once your prototype works, publish it so others can see and use it.

Publishing options:

• Lovable: built-in “Publish” button. Deploys your app to a Lovable subdomain (e.g. your-app.lovable.app). On the Pro plan you can connect your own domain.
• Bolt.new: export the code and publish it on Vercel or Netlify, or deploy directly from the interface.
• Claude Code: run vercel deploy from the terminal to publish on Vercel (free for personal projects).

Publishing is the start of the process, not the end. The MVP exists to learn from real users, not to be perfect.

1. Share the link with 5 to 10 people from your target audience (not friends in general: the people who would actually use your product).
2. Watch how they use it: where do they get confused? what do they ignore?
3. Ask open questions: “What would you change?” instead of “Did you like it?”
4. Go back to the AI tool with the most-requested changes.
5. Publish the new version and repeat the cycle.

The define-build-publish-learn cycle is what turns a prototype into a real product.
