Qualcomm in Talks to Acquire AI Chip Startup Tenstorrent for Up to $10 Billion
My take: Qualcomm, the company behind the chips in your phone, wants to get serious about AI chips by buying Jim Keller's startup (a semiconductor legend) for up to 10 billion dollars. Why do I care even though I am no chip expert? Because today almost all of the world's AI depends on a single supplier (Nvidia), and that is like having one bakery in the whole town: they set whatever price they want. More competition could mean cheaper, more accessible AI for everyone in a few years. Note: it is still a negotiation and may not close, so easy does it. That's my opinion, of course.
