From "I ask ChatGPT" to "I build things with AI"

La mayoría de la gente usa la IA como un Google con buenos modales. Le preguntan algo, leen la respuesta, copian un pedacito y cierran la pestaña. Está bien, ahorra tiempo. Pero ahí se quedan, y se están perdiendo lo bueno.

Porque hay una diferencia enorme entre preguntarle a la IA y construir con ella. La primera te da información. La segunda te da resultados: una web, una hoja de cálculo que se llena sola, una app pequeña, un sistema que antes habrías pagado por mandar a hacer.

Preguntar: la IA te dice

Cuando preguntas, tú haces el trabajo. La IA es la enciclopedia y tú eres quien ejecuta.

Ejemplos de preguntar:

“¿Cómo hago una tabla dinámica en Excel?”
“Dame ideas para el nombre de mi negocio”
“¿Qué es una base de datos?”

Útil, claro. Pero al final del día tú sigues teniendo solo texto en una pantalla. La acción sigue siendo tuya, completa.

Construir: la IA lo hace contigo

Cuando construyes, cambias el verbo. Ya no preguntas “cómo”, pides “hazlo”. La IA deja de explicarte y empieza a producir contigo, paso a paso, hasta que la cosa existe de verdad.

Ejemplos de construir:

“Créame una página web sencilla para mi negocio de repostería, con menú y formulario de contacto”
“Conviérteme este Excel de gastos en un reporte mensual con gráficos”
“Hazme un programa que renombre todas mis fotos por fecha”

¿Ves la diferencia? No terminas con instrucciones. Terminas con algo hecho.

Qué cambia entre uno y otro

El salto no es de conocimiento técnico, es de mentalidad. Estas tres cosas marcan la diferencia:

Pides un resultado, no una explicación. En vez de “cómo se hace”, di “hazlo y guíame”.
Trabajas por turnos. La IA propone, tú pruebas, le dices qué cambiar, y repites. Es una conversación hasta llegar a lo que querías.
Aceptas no entender todo. No necesitas saber cada línea de código, igual que no necesitas saber mecánica para manejar. Necesitas saber a dónde vas.

Ese cambio de “que me explique” a “que lo construya conmigo” es el que abre la puerta.

No tienes que ser técnica

Aquí es donde la gente se frena sola: “yo no sé programar”. Ni yo. Y aún así construyo cosas reales con IA, porque la herramienta correcta hace el trabajo pesado mientras tú diriges.

Hoy le hablas a la IA en español normal, ella escribe el código, te muestra lo que va a hacer y tú apruebas. Tu trabajo no es teclear comandos raros, es saber qué quieres y revisar que esté bien. Eso ya lo sabes hacer.

La idea sigue siendo tuya. La IA es tu compañera de construcción, no tu reemplazo.

Tu primer “construí algo”

No empieces con un proyecto gigante. Escoge algo pequeño y tuyo: una página de una sola sección, un organizador de tu lista de pendientes, un reporte de tus números del mes. Pídele a la IA que lo construya contigo, paso a paso, y no la sueltes hasta que funcione.

La primera vez que termines y digas “esto lo hice yo, con IA”, algo cambia. Dejas de ser alguien que consulta y te conviertes en alguien que crea. Y de ese lado del río, ya no se vuelve.

Because there’s a huge difference between asking AI and building with it. The first gives you information. The second gives you results: a website, a spreadsheet that fills itself in, a small app, a system you would have once paid someone to make.

Asking: AI tells you

When you ask, you do the work. AI is the encyclopedia and you’re the one who executes.

Examples of asking:

“How do I make a pivot table in Excel?”
“Give me ideas for my business name”
“What is a database?”

Useful, sure. But at the end of the day you still have only text on a screen. The action is still entirely yours.

Building: AI does it with you

When you build, you change the verb. You no longer ask “how”, you say “do it”. AI stops explaining and starts producing with you, step by step, until the thing actually exists.

Examples of building:

“Create a simple website for my bakery business, with a menu and a contact form”
“Turn this expenses spreadsheet into a monthly report with charts”
“Make me a program that renames all my photos by date”

See the difference? You don’t end up with instructions. You end up with something made.

What changes between one and the other

The leap isn’t about technical knowledge, it’s about mindset. These three things make the difference:

You ask for a result, not an explanation. Instead of “how is it done”, say “do it and guide me”.
You work in turns. AI proposes, you test, you tell it what to change, and repeat. It’s a conversation until you reach what you wanted.
You accept not understanding everything. You don’t need to know every line of code, just like you don’t need to know mechanics to drive. You need to know where you’re going.

That shift from “explain it to me” to “build it with me” is the one that opens the door.

You don’t have to be technical

This is where people stop themselves: “I don’t know how to code”. Neither do I. And I still build real things with AI, because the right tool does the heavy lifting while you direct.

Today you talk to AI in plain language, it writes the code, shows you what it’s going to do and you approve. Your job isn’t typing strange commands, it’s knowing what you want and checking that it’s right. You already know how to do that.

The idea is still yours. AI is your building partner, not your replacement.

Your first “I built something”

Don’t start with a giant project. Pick something small and yours: a one-section page, an organizer for your to-do list, a report of your numbers for the month. Ask AI to build it with you, step by step, and don’t let go until it works.

The first time you finish and say “I made this, with AI”, something changes. You stop being someone who consults and become someone who creates. And from that side of the river, there’s no going back.
